Pakistani Shell Lands Near UN Station In Poonch After India’s Operation Sindoor Strikes

Preliminary inspections confirmed there were no injuries to UN personnel or nearby residents, and no damage to infrastructure.

A shell fired by the Pakistani Army landed outside the United Nations (UN) field station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, hours after India carried out missile strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Local officials confirmed that the shell fell adjacent to the UN facility but did not breach the compound. No casualties or damage to infrastructure have been reported following a preliminary inspection.

Heavy Shelling Along LoC

The incident occurred amid heavy cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri. Pakistani forces resorted to mortar fire targeting forward villages in Krishna Ghati, Shahpur, and Mankote in Poonch, as well as Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri. In response, Indian forces retaliated, and intermittent shelling between both sides continued as per the latest reports.

The Indian Army confirmed Pakistan's violation of the Ceasefire Agreement in the Bhimber Gali sector of the Poonch-Rajouri region. “Pakistan again violates the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in Bhimber Gali in the Poonch-Rajouri area. Indian Army is responding appropriately in a calibrated manner,” the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) wrote on X.

Operation Sindoor Targets Terror Bases

The escalation comes two weeks after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In response, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, striking nine identified terror bases in Pakistan and PoK, including Bahawalpur — a known stronghold of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group.

In a statement released at 1.44 am, the Indian Army said: “A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.”

The Indian Army has termed its action “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” adding that no Pakistani military installations were targeted.
