UN Chief Appoints Lt Gen Mohan Subramanian Of India As New Commander Of South Sudan Mission
In his recent appointment, Lt General Subramanian served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Military Region (Operational and Logistic Readiness Zone) in central India
Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian will take over as the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), United Nations Secretary-General General António Guterres announced on Wednesday. Lt General Subramanian will replace Lt General Shailesh Tinaikar from India. The Secretary-General is grateful to General Tinaikar for his tireless dedication, invaluable service and effective leadership as UNMISS Force Commander, according to the UN statement.
General Subramanian has been serving in the Indian Army for over 36 years. In his recent appointment, Lt General Subramanian served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Military Region (Operational and Logistic Readiness Zone) in central India.
He contributed immensely to the Army’s operational and logistic preparedness. His previous tenures saw him as the Additional Director General for Procurement and Equipment Management at the Ministry of Defence (Army) (2019-2021), GOC of a Strike Infantry Division (2018-2019).
He also served as Deputy General Officer Commanding of Infantry Division (2015-2016), Commander of a Mountain Brigade (2013-2014) among other positions within the Army.
Lt General Subramanian also represented India globally. He held the position as India’s Defence Attaché to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia (2008-2012) and also spent a tenure with the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone as a staff officer in 2000.
Lieutenant General Subramanian has attained two Master of Philosophy Degrees in Defence and Management Studies and Social Sciences.
