UK Revises Travel Norms For Indians, No Quarantine For Covishield Vaccinated Travellers

Announcing the same, British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, thanked the Indian government for “close cooperation” over last month.

New Delhi: The United Kingdom on Thursday announced the Indian travellers, who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or another vaccine approved by the nation, will no longer have to quarantine on entering the country from October 11.

Announcing the same, British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, thanked the Indian government for “close cooperation” over last month.

“No quarantine for Indian travellers to UK [who are] fully vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine from 11 October. Thanks to Indian government for close cooperation over last month,” he tweeted.

With this move, the UK government added India to its vaccine-eligible countries list.

The travellers arriving in the United Kingdom before October 11 will, however, have to follow the rules for the people, who are not fully vaccinated.

Those who arrive after October 11 can avoid quarantine requirements by showing their Covid vaccination certificate.

Meanwhile, India has decided to grant tourist visas to the foreigners coming via chartered flights from October 15.

The foreign tourists entering into India by flights other than chartered aircraft would, however, be able to do so only with effect from November 15 on fresh tourist visas.

Earlier last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government had due to Covid-19 suspended all visas granted to the foreigners besides imposing various other restrictions on international travel to arrest the spread of the pandemic.

After considering the evolving Covid-19 situation, the foreigners were later on allowed to avail any kind of Indian visa other than tourist visa for entry and stay in India.
