Tripura Is In The Grip Of Delta Plus Variant As 138 People Test Positive For The Strain

The Delta plus variant of COVID-19 considered as the strain of concern is now posing a threat to Tripura. According to the health officials, the 'Delta Plus' variant is now predominant and active in all districts of the state.

'Total 151 COVID report samples were sent to a Laboratory in Kalyani of West Bengal for sequencing. As per the results received today, Delta Plus variant was detected in above 90% of the samples that included 80% cases in West Tripura district alone', said state surveillance officer for COVID, Dr. Deep Kumar Debbarma at a press conference on Friday evening.
Talking to the media, Dr. Tapan Majumdar, head of the Microbiology Department, AGMC said that out of 151 samples, a total of 138 samples were detected Delta Plus variant, 10 Delta strain, and the remaining three UK variants.
'Out of the 138 samples with a report of Delta plus variant, 115 samples were in West Tripura district alone followed by 8 in Sepahijala, 5 in Gomati, 2 in South Tripura, 1 in Khowai, 1 in Dhalai, 4 in Unakoti, and 2 in North Tripura district, said Dr. Tapan Majumdar.
While expressing his concern over the spread of the Delta plus variant, the microbiologist appealed to all to stay alert and strictly follow covid guidelines.
The government is now imposed a 24-hour weekend curfew which will be like a total lockdown is to be imposed across the state of Tripura after over 90 cases of the Delta Plus variant were reported. The weekend curfew will start on Saturday from 12 PM to Monday at 6 AM is a move to break the chain.
