Delhi Court Sends TMC Leader Anubrata Mondal To ED Custody Till March 10 In Cattle Smuggling Case

TMC leader Anubrata Mondal has been sent to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till March 10 in a cattle smuggling case.

New Delhi: A Delhi court has sent Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) till March 10 in an alleged money laundering case related to the West Bengal cattle smuggling case. As per PTI, the midnight court passed the order on a plea moved by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which sought his 14-day custody and said the accused was required to be quizzed.

Special Judge Rakesh Kumar directed the ED, who was represented by Special Public Prosecutor Nitesh Rana, will produce the accused on March 10 before the regular court.

Anubrata Mondal, TMC's Birbhum district president and a close aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was earlier arrested by the CBI in connection with the related corruption case.

On Monday, a special CBI court in Asansol directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to take arrested Mondal to Delhi by air for questioning by an order of the Calcutta High Court following his medical examination at a central government facility in Kolkata.

The ED on Tuesday got custody of Mondal after doctors at Joka-ESI Hospital in West Bengal found him fit to travel to New Delhi. A medical officer accompanied the TMC leader to the national capital.

ED officials took Mondal straightaway to the city airport under the tight security of central forces to catch a flight to the national capital.

The ED was directed to produce the TMC Birbhum district president before the special CBI judge at Rouse Avenue court in Delhi for further investigation into a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case for his alleged complicity in a cattle smuggling case.

The judge ordered that the accused will undergo a medical examination daily till March 10 and his counsels will be allowed to meet him daily for 30 minutes during the interim period.
