Tirupattur Crosses 100°F, TN Heatwave To Persist For 4 More Days

Tamil Nadu has already recorded temperatures 2-3°C above normal in isolated areas. While interior regions are seeing temperatures in range of 31-37°C, coastal regions are experiencing between 30-35°C.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has warned of a significant temperature rise across Tamil Nadu over the next four days with maximum temperatures expected to climb by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. This surge is attributed to light to moderate easterly and northeasterly winds in the lower troposphere, which are driving up heat levels across the state.

Heatwave Expected To Grip TN

Northern coastal regions, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur, are forecast to bear the brunt of the heatwave. The RMC links this weather shift to the La Nina phenomenon, which delayed the withdrawal of the northeast monsoon, leading to a weaker winter season, per a report on IANS. Reduced cloud cover and lower moisture levels have further intensified the heating trend, impacting both coastal and interior areas.

Tamil Nadu has already recorded temperatures 2-3°C above normal in isolated areas. While interior regions are seeing temperatures in the range of 31-37°C, coastal districts are experiencing highs between 30-35°C. The heat is expected to intensify further, with a projected 2°C rise between March 3 and March 7, 2025.

IMD said, "Maximum temperature is likely to be 2-3°C above normal at isolated pockets of Tamilnadu during next 5 days (03.03.2025 to 07.03.2025)."

In Chennai, meteorologists predict mist or haze in the early morning, followed by partly cloudy skies during the day. Meanwhile, interior districts such as Vellore, Erode, Karur, and Paramathi are witnessing extreme heat, with Tirupattur district crossing 100°F (37.8°C), as reported by DT Next.

Health Advisory Issued

The advisory includes recommendations such as: Drinking ample water and using Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS). Consuming hydrating homemade drinks and including water-rich fruits and vegetables in daily diets.
