Three Tier Security In Tripura For Counting Of Civic Body Polls
The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), Tripura police, and the Tripura State Rifles have been deployed at all the counting centres.
New Delhi: As the counting begins for Tripura civic body polls, three-tier security has been arranged by the police for all counting centres. The counting for 200 seats in Agartala Municipal Corporation and other civic bodies in Tripura is in progress.
The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), Tripura police, and the Tripura State Rifles have been deployed at all the counting centres. The security is put in place due to several alleged attacks by political parties, reported PTI.
“The counting of votes in connection with General Election to the Municipal and Nagar Panchayat, 2021 for 6 Nagar Panchayats, 7 Municipal Council and the Agartala Municipal Corporation will be conducted in 13 counting centres all over the state. In this regard, adequate police arrangement has been made for each counting centre. For maintenance of law & order during the counting of votes, a three-tier security arrangement has been made for each counting centre by deploying CAPF as well as State Police and Tripura State Rifles,” said the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Subrata Chakraborty.
Tripura civic bodies have a total of 334 seats, out of which 112 have been won by the incumbent BJP, and the counting for the remaining 222 is ongoing. The major parties in the election were BJP, TMC, and CPI(M).
While the TMC has demanded re-election for all the seats alleging that the voting was “heavily rigged and reduced to a farce” by the BJP, the CPI(M) has demanded re-election on five wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
The BJP has also issued a statement requesting its workers to maintain peace and order during and after the counting. “Party workers should maintain control at par with organizational tradition after announcement of results. All party workers should remember their happiness and joy should not cause sadness of others,” statement by BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said.
