Three Maoists Killed In Joint Operation On Telangana-Chhattisgarh Border

Security forces from Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra jointly initiated the mission, marking one of the largest coordinated offensives against Maoist factions in recent times.

Three Maoists were killed on Thursday in a fierce encounter with security forces in the Karregutta hillocks, a remote forested region straddling the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. The exchange of fire broke out during a demining operation conducted by a team of soldiers combing the hilly terrain for improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The operation, launched two days ago, was prompted by intelligence inputs gathered through drone surveillance, pointing to the presence of high-ranking Maoist leaders in the area, reported ETV. Security forces from Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra jointly initiated the mission, marking one of the largest coordinated offensives against Maoist factions in recent times. Senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials have been monitoring the operation closely, as per a report on All India Radio.

Karregutta hill, located near Telangana’s Mulugu district and bordering the Maoist stronghold of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, has long served as a strategic hideout for the groups. The objective of the current operation is to dismantle Maoist leadership structures and disrupt their operational capabilities across the border areas.

Fourteen Maoists Surrender In Telangana

In a significant development linked to ongoing counter-insurgency efforts, fourteen members of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit surrendered to Telangana police on Thursday. The surrender took place at the Warangal Police Commissionerate in the presence of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Multi Zone-I, S. Chandrashekhar Reddy.

Among those who surrendered were two Area Committee Members (ACMs), considered key figures in the Maoist hierarchy. According to an official press release, 250 Maoists—including a state committee member—have surrendered so far this year, while 12 others have been arrested since January 2025, as per PTI.

IGP Reddy attributed the increased rate of surrenders to the success of ‘Operation Cheyutha,’ a police initiative aimed at encouraging insurgents to lay down arms by offering rehabilitation, welfare measures, and tribal development programs.
