Rajasthan Elections 2023: 1,875 Candidates To Vie For 200 Seats

With the Rajasthan assembly elections slated for November 25 and the vote counting scheduled for December 3, political fervour has gripped the state. In order to win a second straight term in Rajasthan, the Congress Party has announced a slew of pro-people initiatives, as well as seven pledges. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting a comeback, trying to depose the existing Congress administration, which is led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

According to a PTI report, 490 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers, leaving 1,875 candidates to compete in the Rajasthan State Assembly elections on November 25. There are 183 female candidates and 1,692 male candidates running for the 200-member Assembly.

Nominations were submitted by a total of 2,605 candidates. 240 of them were rejected during the review process, and 490 withdrew. Many Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress dissidents withdrew their candidature as independent candidates on Thursday after being refused tickets.

Delhi Schools To Resume All Physical Classes From Monday As AQI Improves

Following a dramatic reduction in pollution readings, Delhi is preparing to reopen its schools on Monday, November 20. The Delhi administration has ordered the start of physical education lessons for all grades, a significant move after an early winter break was imposed on November 8, 2023, due to extreme air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

"In light of these developments, it is ordered that all govt, govt-aided and private recognised schools in Delhi shall resume all classes (from pre-school to Std XII) physically w.e.f. 20.11.2013 i.e. Monday. However, outdoor sports activities and morning assemblies will not be held for the next one week from the issuance of this order. All parents must be informed, accordingly, well in advance," the official order reads.

The government's order, citing improved conditions, emphasised the improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) and referenced projections from IMD/IITM, predicting no immediate dramatic worsening in Delhi's air quality. As a result, the GRAP Sub-Committee overturned its previous order, which had implemented GRAP Stage IV.

PM Modi To Chair Virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit On November 22

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over a virtual G20 Leaders' Summit on November 22, the Ministry of External Affairs said on November 18.

The meeting comes after PM Modi indicated during the closing session of the G20 Summit in New Delhi on September 10 that India will hold a virtual G20 Leaders' Summit before the end of India's G20 Presidency, according to the ministry.

“Leaders of all G20 Members including the Chair of the African Union, as well as nine guest countries, and heads of 11 international organisations, have been invited,” the ministry stated in an official statement.
