Parts Of Tamil Nadu On Yellow Alert As Rainfall Hit Several Districts; Wet Spell To Continue
The weather pattern across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal has remained largely unchanged in the past 24 hours with temperatures generally 1 to 3°C below normal, particularly in certain pockets.

Heavy rainfall was experienced in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Thursday especially with many areas in South Tamil Nadu witnessing showers. Further, the forecast indicates light to moderate rain at a few locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal with thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph expected at isolated spots.
Yellow Alert Issued For Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in isolated areas, particularly over districts such as Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, and Thiruvarur.
Chennai is expected to see light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in some parts. The sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the day, with intermittent spells of light rain in select areas.
Among the notable rainfall figures, Sivagiri in Tenkasi district received 11 mm, while Tondi in Ramanathapuram and Tirumangalam in Madurai recorded 9 mm each.
Weather Condition
The weather pattern across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal has remained largely unchanged in the past 24 hours. Temperatures across the region have been generally 1 to 3°C below normal, particularly in certain pockets. Maximum temperatures ranged between 34-38°C in the interior plains, 32-36°C along coastal Tamil Nadu, and 19-30°C in the hilly regions. The highest temperature was recorded in Erode at 37.6°C, while Karur Paramathi saw the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 20.0°C.
According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the southeast Arabian Sea and extends up to south Kerala. The previously marked system over the Comorin region has weakened as has the trough stretching from Lakshadweep to Konkan.
