Suspension Of Mobile Internet, SMS Services Extended In Punjab As Police Look To Nab Amritpal Singh

The suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Punjab has been further extended as the Police continue their attempt to catch Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh.

The government of Punjab has extended the suspension on all mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking & mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab till March 20 (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety, reported ANI citing Department of Home Affairs & Justice, Government of Punjab.

Earlier in the day, Punjab Police arrested Daljeet Singh Kalsi alias Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi, an alleged advisor and financer of 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh, news agency ANI reported Central Agency sources as saying.

Pro-Khalistan outfit, Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh was declared fugitive on late Saturday evening by the Punjab Police, shortly after he was said to be on the run. On Saturday, the Punjab Police had launched a massive statewide cordon and search operation in the state against the members of the outfit against whom several cases stand registered. 

Speaking to news agency ANI, Jalandhar Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, “Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh has been declared a fugitive. His two cars were seized and gunmen nabbed. We also checked if the firearms of his security escorts had been procured legally.

“A case has been registered. Punjab Police have launched a manhunt for Amritpal Singh and we are hopeful that he will be arrested soon. A total of 78 people have been arrested so far and further searches and raids are underway," Chahal added.

Security has been enhanced across the state to nab the Khalistani sympathiser.

During the operation, a total of 78 persons were arrested by Punjab Police on Saturday, while, several others were detained for questioning.

Nine weapons including 8 rifles, one revolver have been recovered during the operation, the police said.
