Patiala: In the wake of the surge in coronavirus cases, a night curfew has been imposed in Punjab’s Patiala district between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. from March 12.
The district administration has, however, exempted essential services, government officials and medical emergency services.
The announcement comes as Punjab has recorded around 1,393 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had last month in the wake of the rising coronavirus cases said that he would review the Covid-19 situation with health experts and senior officers.
Besides Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu continue to report a high number of COVID daily new cases, according to the Union Health Ministry.
In the last 24 hours, 22,854 new cases were registered. Maharashtra reported the highest daily new cases at 13,659 (almost 60 percent of the daily new cases) followed by Kerala with 2,475 cases.

Meanwhile, India’s total active caseload reached 1, 89,226 on Thursday. The country’s present active caseload now stands at 1.68 percent of India’s total positive cases.
So far, over 2.56 crore vaccine doses have been administered through 4,78,168 sessions. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that 71 percent of these doses have been administered at public health facilities while around 29 percent doses at private centers.
