Surat Cop Who Stopped Minister's Son For Flouting Norms Resigns; Support Pours In For 'Lady Singham'

Sunita Yadav was 'pulled up' for performing her duty. She stopped Gujarat Health Minister's son after he was seen moving around with his friends in a car past the night curfew. A video of the heated argument went viral. Sunita has resigned after she was transferred to the Police Headquarters.

New Delhi: While speaking about the lockdown norms Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always said that everybody, from a minister to a laborer will have to follow the norms. PM, himself will have to follow all the social distancing and lockdown norms, and if anybody seems to flout the restrictions strict action will be taken against them. Here the rule violator is enjoying the comforts and luxuries while the one who tried to maintain the law and order had to resign after strict action was taken against her for performing her duty. A woman constable in Gujarat's Surat resigned after she was threatened for stopping a state minister's son and his friends for violating night curfew regulations and not wearing masks at the check point where she was deployed.

A clip of their heated argument surfaced on social media in which Gujarat Health Minister Kumar Kanani's son Prakash can be heard arguing with the cop Sunita Yadav and brazenly threatening her. In the video clip, Kumar Kanani's son Prakash can be seen arguing with the woman cop Sunita Yadav and bragging about his power. Following which, Sunita Yadav called her superior, who tried to sweep the matter and asked even her to leave the spot. This apparently frustrated the woman constable and she resigned. The constable shouts back that she is not their slave or a servant of their fathers that they can make her stand there for 365 days. She is then heard calling up her superior officer to inform that when she stopped five persons who were roaming around in a car without wearing masks after 10 pm when the curfew is in force in view of coronavirus, they called Prakash, the son of MLA Kanani. When Prakash arrived on the spot, they threatened and abused her, she is heard saying. Support Pours in for Sunita Yadav Social media fumed over the reports of Sunita Yadav's forces resignation and transfer orders and people showed support to the lady copy as 'I support Sunita Yadav trended on Twitter. Among the ones who have come out in her support include former IPS officer D.G. Vanzara and actor Swara Bhasker.

Vanzara tweeted, “During my Service, I saw Sps whose Caliber was worst than that of Constables, while, I also saw Constables who would have become better Sps given the Opportunity. #I_support_sunita_yadav & appreciate Her Courage & Commitment, Violators of Law must be booked whosoever they maybe.” People even called her better than an IPS officer.

Actor Swara Bhasker wrote, “She deserved promotion for doing her job. Instead, she had to resign due to frustration! Is this the reward in our country for a public servant who does her duty?” An inquiry has been ordered into the incident, a senior Surat city police official said on Saturday. Meanwhile, Varachha Road MLA Kumar Kanani claimed that his son was on his way to the civil hospital as his father-in-law, undergoing treatment for coronavirus, was critical when he was stopped by the constable. Kamani alleged that he was being framed and the constable was trying to frame him and his son. "He requested her to let him go. She argued why the vehicle had 'MLA' written on it. He said it was his father's vehicle. She asked why he was in my vehicle. I believe she should have tried to understand what my son was saying. I believe both sides should have tried to understand each other better," the minister said. While people across the country are applauding her for her duty her resignation and her transfer orders raise serious questions on the Gujarat police and the government for punishing someone who dedicatedly tried to maintain what the Prime Minister had said.
