Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: CBI Still Probing 'Role Of Others', Supreme Court Told

The CBI has informed the top court in the latest status report that further probe into the alleged role of others in rape and murder case is a subject of ongoing investigation.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday went through the fifth status report filed by the CBI in the brutal rape and murder case of the 31-year-old on duty trainee doctor at the state government run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI has informed the top court in the latest status report that further probe into the alleged role of others in rape and murder case is a subject of ongoing investigation.

The top court recorded today that in its fifth status report, the CBI on the basis of the probe thus far, has filed a chargesheet on October 7 for alleged offences punishable under section 66, 67 BNS against accused Sanjoy Roy. 

A bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud went through the fifth CBI report and directed the central agency to continue the probe and submit the next report within three weeks.

"By an order of ACJM Sealdah the cognisance has been taken and the case has been committed to the sessions court. The hearing for consideration on charge has been fixed on November 4. The status report filed by CBI indicates that further probe into role of others in allege rape and murder is a subject of ongoing investigation," the order by the Supreme Court noted.

The top court further recorded that the CBI has also received communications pertaining to certain aspects highlighted by parties appearing through counsels and is looking into that. It may be recalled that in the last hearing the top court had directed CBI to look into the issues flagged by the victim's father in a letter to the court and doctors working in the RG Kar Hospital. 

The court was also informed that the MEITY has nominated a nodal officer who is in constant touch with the parents of the deceased for taking down any content that violates her privacy. 

SG Tushar Mehta appearing for CBI further informed the top court that the central investigation agency is in constant touch with parents of the deceased and have kept them apprised on the progress of investigation.

"Those issues are also being looked at by the CBI. The CBI has further highlighted developments which have taken place in the probe into the financial irregularities alleged to have been committed at the hospital. Further investigation both in respect of the investigation which took place shall continue. The further status shall be communicated to the court within 3 weeks," the top court ordered.
