Sudhir Suri Murder: 'It Was Preplanned, Won't Cremate My Father Until Demands Are Met,' Says Son Of Slain Leader

Suri was protesting against the administration of Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road, one of the city's busiest routes after many damaged idols of Hindu deities were allegedly discovered along the roadside.

Manik Suri, the son of slain Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader Sudhir Suri, said on Saturday that his father's murder was pre-planned and that he got a call threat the day before the incident. He further stated that his family is in danger and that they (the Suri family) had been receiving threatening phone calls, news agency ANI reported. 

Suri, (58) was shot five times during a protest outside a temple in a crowded Amritsar locality on Friday. After being shot, he fell and was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"There was a threat call the night before the incident. My father received a call from the UK. The caller introduced himself as Amritpal Singh & said he was sending some men & his deal is done...It was planned,4 bullets hit him:" news agency ANI quoted Manik Suri, son of slain Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri as saying. 

Suri was protesting against the management of Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road, one of the busiest streets in the city after several shattered idols of Hindu deities were purportedly discovered on the wayside, which he called sacrilege.

Suri's son demanded martyrdom for his father and stated that he will not have his father's remains cremated unless his demands are granted.

"We're demanding the status of martyr for my father, suspension of negligent officers & security, and another accommodation for us. Won't cremate him until our demands are met," ANI quoted Manik as saying. 

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated on Saturday that the investigation is underway and the accused has been held by the police, justice will be rendered, ANI reported. 

Sandeep Singh aka Sunny (31), the accused, was apprehended, and the.32-bore legal firearm used in the incident was recovered. According to authorities, he operates a clothing store near the protest location, news agency PTI reported.
