Sonia, Rahul Gandhi Join Oppn Protest Outside Parliament, Demand JPC Probe Into Adani Row

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi joined the opposition's protest outside Parliament demanding a JPC probe into the Adani row.

Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi joined the protest of Opposition MPs outside Parliament on Friday to demand a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani row controversy, reported news agency IANS.

Opposition leader staged the protest outside the statue of Mahatma Gandhi which is situated within the Parliament premises.

In the short video posted by ANI on Twitter, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi along with Mallikarjun Kharge were seen sitting on chairs while other opposition leaders sat on the ground. Leaders were seen holding signboards saying- "Finding the missing", "JPC probe into Adani row", etc and raising slogans of "Modi-Adani's Brotherhood."

The protest began soon after both Houses were adjourned for the day in a standoff over Rahul Gandhi's remarks "democracy under attack" that he delivered in London.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor while talking to the media said, "Rahul Gandhi hasn't said anything he should apologise for. He never demanded foreign forces come to our country to save our democracy. It's nonsense. He said that democracy, in our country, is in danger & everyone should know about it. I didn't hear anything wrong in it."

Rajya Sabha convened at 11 am shortly after which the commotion broke out after the papers were placed on the table. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his comments on Indian democracy and criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he made in London. In the meantime, Congress leaders voiced their concerns and began criticising the government, calling for a Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation into the Adani Group.
