'Simple' man like me was married against wishes to a 'modern' woman: Tej Pratap, after filing for divorce
Tej Pratap Yadav said he has been living a stifled life ever since his marriage with Aishwarya Rai who he said is totally opposite to him.
New Delhi: As news about former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav’s divorce with his wife of six months Aishwarya Rai, towered in media, the RJD leader clarified that he was married against his wishes to a person who is just contrary to him in nature He said that the differences between the two resulted in compatibility issues. Yadav addressed reporters in Bodh Gaya on Saturday that he had told his parents he did not wish to marry at that moment but nobody listened to him and he had to get married under pressure.
He said his marriage with Aishwarya Rai was a mismatch as he is a simple man while she is a modern woman and after their marriage he had been living a ‘stifled life.’ He said Aishwarya and he, are poles apart as Aishwarya is educated in Delhi and is used to life in metropolis, while he is a simpleton.
He told the reporters that he has not been on talking terms with Rai for the past couple of months.
His reaction comes a day after he filed a divorce petition at the Patna civil court. He said he was not willing to withdraw his petition, which is expected to come up for hearing on November 29.
Tej Pratap took the step immediately after returning from his Vrindavan pilgrimage. '
When asked about taking the decision while his father was in poor health he said: “I have been living a stifled (ghut ghut ke) life. How long can one go on like this?"
Asked whether his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav has spoken to him on the issue, he said they talk about politics, not about private matters.
In his petition, Tej Pratap has stated cruelty as the reason for seeking divorce.
Rai is the daughter of RJD MLA Chandrika Rai. Her grandfather Daroga Rai was the chief minister of Bihar in the 1960s. The couple had tied the knot here on May 12 this year.
The RJD chief Lalu Yadav had acquired bail to attend the wedding in Patna. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan were among others who attended the grand wedding.
