Second Mega Oppn Meeting Chaired By Congress In Bengaluru On July 17 And 18: KC Venugopal

The second mega opposition meeting is scheduled to take place before the Monsoon session of parliament beginning on July 20.

Congress leader KC Venugopal on Monday announced that the second opposition meeting will be held in Bengaluru on July 17 and 18 after he informed that the mega meet will take place before the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament. Opposition leaders of 15 parties gathered under one roof in a meeting called by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna last month. Leaders from various regional and national parties expressed their views on the importance of unity and working with flexibility while putting political differences aside.

"After a hugely successful All-Opposition meeting in Patna, we will be holding the next meeting in Bengaluru on 17 and 18 July, 2023. We are steadfast in our unwavering resolve to defeat the fascist and undemocratic forces and present a bold vision to take the country forward," Venugopal tweeted.

The meeting is scheduled to take place before the Monsoon session of parliament beginning on July 20. The announcement has come after the NCP in Maharashtra suffered a major blow with leader Ajit Pawar-led rebellion wherein he took oath as Deputy Chief Minister along with eight others who were sworn in as ministers in the Eknath Shide-led BJP-Shiv Sena government.

Last month, top opposition leaders held deliberations in Patna lasting over four hours and announced that they would fight the 2024 Lok Sabha polls together.

In a joint statement, the Opposition parties said they would fight the polls on a common agenda and state-wise strategy. In a press conference, JDU leader Nitish Kumar announced that the next meeting will be held under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

"The next meeting (of the opposition) will be chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge next month," Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announced.

Mallikarjun Kharge in the press conference said all the parties, who attended the meeting in Patna today, are trying to come to a common agenda to fight together.

However, the meeting saw fissures between the AAP and Congress, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal insisting that Congress clarify its stand on the Centre's ordinance that reversed the effect of the Supreme Court verdict that gave the Delhi government power over administrative services.

A bill to replace the ordinance is likely to be tabled by the Centre during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament.
