RJD MLA Saroj Yadav 's sister Shaili Devi dies resisting five molesters in Bhojpur district
Patna: Shaili Devi, the only sister of RJD MLA from Bhojpur district Saroj Yadav, on Tuesday died of injuries she sustained while resisting sexual assault on Monday night. She had been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna.
Two accused on Wednesday morning surrendered before Arrah court
Police said that Shaili, (40), a resident of Keshopur under Chandi police station in Bhojpur, was returning home after taking medicines from a local doctor when five men in an auto-rickshaw tried to molest her near Narvirpur village. When she resisted, one of the men attacked her with an iron rod. She was hit on her head.
Shaili, who was found bleeding profusely on the road leading to Ara, the district headquarters town of Bhojpur around 60km west of Patna, had told the cops that the men ramped up their assault when she told them that she was the sister of a ruling party MLA.
As the news about her death spread like wildfire in the area, a large number of supporters of the MLA from Barhara blocked the Patna-Ara road and disrupted traffic for about four hours. The road blockade was removed after senior police and administrative officials intervened.
A visibly upset Saroj Yadav said: "The incident is a reflection of the law and order situation in the state. When such an incident can happen with the sister of a legislator, one can easily imagine the plight of the common masses."
The MLA blamed the police for rising crime.
"The focus of the men in uniform has shifted from their prime duty of maintaining law and order. Under such circumstances, such incidents will happen," he told The Telegraphover the phone on Tuesday.
The FIR lodged with the Chandi police station lists five people as accused, of which the identity of three is not known.
A senior police officer said: "Two of the accused have been identified as Santosh Singh and Mithilesh Singh of Narvirpur village. Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the others."
