Republic Day 2022: Security Beefed Up In National Capital For R-Day Celebrations

The national capital has been turned into a no-fly zone and the areas in and around Rajpath have been fortified with multi-layer security cover, facial recognition systems and over 300 CCTVs. 

New Delhi: The day for which preparations have been going on for days has finally arrived. To ensure that there are no hindrances in celebration of the 73rd Republic Day today in the national capital, the Delhi Police has beefed up the security arrangements. From announcing Delhi a ‘no-fly zone’ to mandating double dose covid vaccination for the visitors visiting Rajpath, the Delhi Police has ensured security and safety from all the fronts for today’s celebration. 

 

Deployment of Security Personnel

In order to safeguard the national capital from any threat, the Delhi Police has deployed over 20,000 forces which includes DCPs, ACPs, Delhi Police Commandos, and CAPF Commandos. "Intensified anti-terror measures are being taken for the last 2 months because Delhi is always a target. This year too we are alert. Over 20,000 forces deployed including DCPs, ACPs, Delhi Police commandos, CAPF commandos,” the Delhi Police Commissioner, Rakesh Asthana had said on Sunday. 

 

Besides this, the areas in and around Rajpath have been fortified with multi-layer security cover, facial recognition systems and over 300 CCTVs.

No-Fly Zone

The national capital has been converted into a no-fly zone which means that flying of drones, UAVs and hot air balloons is prohibited. To check for any unattended flying objects in the airspace, an Anti-drone Team has been put in place as well. 

“With regards to tackling drones and UAVs, the Delhi Police is working along with DRDO and NSG. We are keeping a close watch on such activities. We have briefed our staff extensively about suspected persons and objects. We are also coordinating with the neighbouring states for precise arrangements as well," Delhi Police Special Commissioner Satish Golcha had said.

Guidelines for Visitors Visiting Rajpath

For people who would attend the event at Rajpath, the Delhi Police has issued guidelines for them too. Seating blocks will open at 7 am and visitors are advised to come accordingly, the Delhi Police said. All visitors must be fully vaccinated and should also bring along the vaccine certificate with them. Children under the age of 15 are not allowed at the venue. 

There will be provision to deposit remote control car lock keys in each parking area, but the Delhi Police also advised visitors to opt for taxi or a carpool as the parking is limited. Visitors are required to carry a valid ID card to the event and cooperate with the security checks, it added.
