Relief For Motorists! Govt Extends Validity Of Driving License, Motor Vehicle Documents Till June 30
It may be the last advisory in view of the extension of vehicle document validity. Hence, make sure you renew the license by June 30.
Those worried about the renewal of their driving licenses can breathe a sigh of relief as the government has extended the validity of driving licenses till June end. The government has extended the validity of all driving licenses and other documents related to the Motor Vehicle Act which expired by February 1, 2020, or expiring by March 31, 2021.
What’s the extension?
In an advisory issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to the states, the government has extended the validity of fitness, permit, driving license, registration and other documents whose extension of validity could not be granted due to lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by March 31, 2021. Such an extension has not been granted earlier as well. The government had issued similar advisories to offer relief to vehicle owners and to reduce footfall at transport authority offices due to pandemic. The prior deadline was set for 31 March
The earlier advisories were issued in 2020 in the month of March 30, June 9, August 24 and December 27. The documents that will be eligible for the relaxation fall under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
Those driving vehicles need to note that the validity of the documents that have expired since February 1, the same may be treated to be valid till June 30, 2021.
Enforcement authorities are advised to treat such documents valid till June 30, 2021, the MoRTH said adding that "this will help out citizens in availing transport-related services".
It may be the last advisory in view of the extension of vehicle document validity. The government has asked states to implement this advisory in letter and spirit, so that citizens are not harassed or face difficulties.
