The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has also taken Ranya Rao's friend, Tarun Konduraju, who reportedly accompanied her to Dubai, into custody. He was also presented before the court on Tuesday.

The government has also directed a CID investigation into the alleged lapses and negligence of police officers at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. Ramachandra Rao currently holds the position of Managing Director at the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

The government order said, as per PTI, "ACS Gaurav Gupta has been appointed as the Investigating Officer to investigate the facts and circumstances leading to the availment of the protocol related facilities and the role of the Director General of Police of the State, IPS cadre, Ramachandra Rao, Managing Director, Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Corporation in this case."

Earlier, DGP Rao distanced himself from his stepdaughter's activities. Speaking to Times of India, he stated that Ranya married four months ago and hadn’t visited since. He claimed ignorance of her or her husband’s business dealings, calling the incident a huge shock.
