Rajnath Singh Greenlights Rs 1.05 Lakh Cr Indigenous Defence Acquisitions In Big Push For 'Make In India'

India's Defence Acquisition Council approved Rs. 1.05 lakh crore worth of indigenous arms and military equipment procurement.

The Defence Acquisition Council of India has approved the start of a process to acquire arms and military equipment worth Rs. 1.05 lakh crore, the defence ministry said on Thursday. Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals will be done through indigenous sourcing.

According to the presser by the ministry, the AoNs were accorded for procurement of Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems, Integrated Common Inventory Management Systems for the Tri-Services, and Surface-to-Air Missiles. The press statement also mentions that the procurements will provide higher mobility, effective air defence, better supply chain management, and augmented operational preparedness of the Armed Forces.

The AoNs were also accorded for the procurement of Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels. The release further mentions that these procurements will enable mitigation of potential risks posed to the naval and merchant vessels.

"To provide further impetus to indigenous design and development, AoNs were accorded under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category," the press release from the Ministry of Defence mentioned.

TOI quoting the ministry report that the decision aligns with the focus of the government on indigenisation and self-reliance in the defence sector. All the proposals have been cleared under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) category, ensuring the involvement of Indian vendors and encouraging development within the domestic defence ecosystem.
