'Some People Comment Inappropriately To Score Brownie Points': VP Dhankhar Amid Row Over His Rajasthan Visits

Vice President Dhankar stated that the people who holds higher positions should be more dignified in their conduct.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday stated that "we must not look at constitutional functionaries with political prism, only to score brownie political points. That is not acceptable," news agency ANI reported. His remarks came amid the controversy over his "repeated" visits to Rajasthan ahead of the polls. Earlier on Thursday, Gehlot had protested Jagdeep Dhankhar's numerous visit to the state, stating that "people understand why the Vice-President is coming here again and again" and that "they will respond appropriately." Vice President Dhankar further stated that the people who holds higher positions should be more dignified in their conduct.

"It is a matter of reflection, contemplation and concern that some people make inappropriate comments on constitutional institutions...wearing political glasses. They should not do this, this behaviour is against our cultural heritage...The higher the position a person holds, the more dignified his conduct should be. Making any comment to gain political advantage is not a good thing. I call upon everyone to be quite responsible when it comes to constitutional institutions," he stated.

Earlier, Gehlot had questioned if the repeated trips served any purpose, particularly given the upcoming elections in the state. What will people say about such visits? What do you hope to accomplish? You possess a constitutional position, and you should be respected regardless of whatever government is in charge.

Following Ghelot's statement, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister for Law and Justice, slammed Rajasthan Chief Minister for questioning Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar's recent visit to the state, querying whether the Vice President requires the Chief Minister's permission to visit his state.

"For the Vice President (Jagdeep Dhankhar), the Chief Minister (Ashok Gehlot) said, why is he coming now? So the Vice President will come after getting permission from him?" Meghwal stated.
