Rain Mayhem: 2 Dead In MP, 6 Trapped In Aligarh; Schools Shut In Various UP Districts Amid IMD's Red Alert

Incessant rains in various parts of North India including UP and MP have caused casualties and severe disruptions amid red alert by IMD.

Incessant rain in various parts of north India including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi-NCR has wreaked havoc causing casualties and disruption. The heavy downpour has resulted in waterlogging forcing schools to shut classes for students. 

The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert with "extreme heavy rain" for Thursday and Friday for West Uttar Pradesh. According to IMD, East Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive very heavy rainfall on Thursday and sounded an orange alert while issuing a yellow alert for Friday. 

Very heavy rain is expected to lash Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh with the weather department activating an orange alert. 

Two people were killed in Madhya Pradesh's Datia after a wall of a fort collapsed on huts due to heavy rain. Nine people were trapped under the debris out of which two died while two were injured and were admitted to a hospital and rescue operations were on to pull out the rest.

In view of the continuous rain in Rajgarh district for the last 36 hours, the Collector declared a holiday from class 1st to 8th in all the government and private schools of the district. The holiday was declared while keeping the health of the children in view.

In Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi, roads have been waterlogged after 35 hours of continuous rainfall. Houses have been inundated while dams were overflowing. Matatila Dam in Jhansi released 2,81,482 cusecs of water after which people living in the low-lying areas were alerted. Ganpati pandals have also been filled with water in the town. 

Six people, including three children, were trapped under debris in Aligarh's Jaidpur under Tappal police station limits after a house collapsed due to heavy rain. The trapped people were rescued and one was in serious condition. 

A holiday was declared for classes 1 to 8 for all government and private schools in Kannauj district. All schools and colleges from nursery to class 12 will also remain closed in the Firozabad district following the order of the District Magistrate. 

District Collector for Bharatpur, Rajasthan also declared a holiday for two days from Thursday to Friday for classes 1 to 12 due to waterlogging. 

National Highway 9 was closed in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh  due to heavy debris after continuous rain. The internal roads of the district were closed in many places and work to clear the debris was underway, reported ANI.
