Rain Continues To Lash Bengaluru, Affecting Flight Ops; Yellow Alert Issued

The wet spell continues as Bengaluru prepares to host the high-stakes IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Bengaluru continues to reel under a spell of persistent rain with India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert until May 7. Following this, the IMD forecast rain and thunderstorms in afternoon and evening hours over the coming days.

This wet spell continues as Bengaluru prepares to host the high-stakes IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, prompting concerns over potential weather-related disruptions to the game.

Bengaluru Rains

Flash flooding and waterlogged streets have been reported in multiple parts of Bengaluru.

Bengaluru is expected to see partly cloudy skies, with chances of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h. The city’s temperature is predicted to peak at 34°C, with a low of around 21°C.

Karnataka Weather Forecast

Rainfall has been reported at isolated locations across Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, while North Interior Karnataka has seen dry conditions. Temperature variations have been notable across the state: Coastal areas recorded highs between 33°C and 37°C, while districts like Belagavi, Bagalkote, and Gadag reached up to 39°C, according to IMD. Kalaburgi topped the charts at 42°C, the hottest in the state.

In South Interior Karnataka, hill stations like Agumbe, Chikkamagaluru, and Madikeri remained cooler, with maximum temperatures between 29°C and 32°C. Bengaluru and nearby cities such as Mysuru and Chitradurga reported temperatures ranging from 33°C to 35°C, with some areas like Chintamani and Davangere hitting 36°C. Mandya recorded a notable drop in daytime temperatures, while other districts remained stable.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is likely in pockets of Dakshina Kannada, while Udupi may witness isolated showers. Dry conditions are expected to continue in Uttara Kannada.

Flights Diverted

Severe weather has also disrupted air traffic. Between 6:25 PM and 7:10 PM, four Bengaluru-bound flights—including three domestic passenger aircraft and one international cargo flight—were redirected to Chennai International Airport, as per a report on Indian Express.
