Rahul Gandhi takes on Modi, asks if the '50% increase in Swiss bank deposit by Indians' is white?
Taking a jibe at the BJP government, Gandhi said in 2014 promised to bring back black money from Swiss banks and deposit Rs 15 lakh in each Indians bank account.
New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday took on Bharatiya Janta Party government over 50% increase in monetary deposits by Indians in Swiss banks, stating that party made tall and false claims before coming to power over black money.
Taking a jibe at the BJP government, Gandhi said in 2014 promised to bring back black money from Swiss banks and deposit Rs 15 lakh in each Indians bank account. Thereafter, 2016 the government claimed that the demonetization announcement would cure black money; and now after there is a 50% increase in country’s black money deposits, the government is claiming that all the money in Swiss banks is white and not black.
As per the latest data, Money deposited by Indians in Swiss banks rose over 50% to Rs 7,000 crore in 2017.2014, HE said: I will bring back all the "BLACK" money in Swiss Banks & put 15 Lakhs in each Indian bank A/C. 2016, HE said: Demonetisation will cure India of "BLACK" money. 2018, HE says: 50% jump in Swiss Bank deposits by Indians, is "WHITE" money. As per the latest data, the Indian money in Swiss banks included CHF464 million (₹3,200 crore) in the form of customer deposits, CHF152 million (₹1,050 crore) through other banks and CHF383 million (₹2,640 crore) as ‘other liabilities’ such as securities at the end of 2017. The surge has come as a huge surprise given various initiatives by Indian government to clampdown the black money stashed abroad.Annual banking statistics, 2017 https://t.co/7dFNkvG2l7
