What Is The Case?
The petitioner, Vignesh S Shishir from Karnatka has argued in his petition that the Congress Raebareli MP holds a dual citizenship of India and the United Kingdom.
Shishir has claimed that he has confidential e-mails from the British government to back his assertions. "We have direct communication from the UK government that Mr Gandhi is in their citizenship records," he told NDTV in March.
The BJP worker has said that they have presented all documents to support his claim. Under Indian laws, dual citizenship is not allowed. Once someone takes the citizenship of another nation, Indian citizenship gets cancelled," he added.

Subramanian Swamy's Plea
Similarly, an identical plea was filed by ex-BJP MP Subramanian Swamy in 2019 in the Delhi High Court against Gandhi.
Swamy first raised the allegation in 2015 and his plea is based on claims that a former British company listed Gandhi as a UK national in some of its records. The company which was formed in 2003 dissolved six years later, as per the plea.
The Congress has, however, always denied the allegation of his dual citizenship saying he was anything other than Indian.
His sister, Priyanka Gandhi has said Rahul Gandhi "is Indian and was born and raised here". The Lok Sabha LoP has also refuted the claims as "an endeavour to malign my name".
