New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wdnesday evening. The Punjab CM will likely discuss the issue of farmers' protest, sources told ABP News.
He had earlier met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. It is speculated that Amarinder Singh may demand the immediate repeal of the new Farm Laws during his meeting with PM Modi.
Discussion On Farmers' Issue
Many farmers from Punjab have been protesting against three new agricultural reform laws introduced by the government last year. Farmers have long been at the borders of the national capital, demanding the withdrawal of the three new Agri Laws. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is likely to ask PM Modi to repeal the new laws citing huge social and economic security implications.
Meeting With Amit Shah
On Tuesday, during a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Amarinder Singh had requested intervention to resolve the farmers' protest. The Punjab Chief Minister's media advisor had informed that Amarinder Singh had asked Shah to stop the opposition forces from taking advantage of resentment amongst farmers.
Amarinder Singh is also likely to discuss the security of Punjab with PM Modi. During his meeting with Amit Shah, he sought 25 companies of the Central Armed Police Force and anti-drone equipment for the Border Security Force (BSF). He added that Pakistan-backed terror forces could target Punjab.
The CM also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi Tuesday evening. The party's Punjab in-charge, Harish Rawat, was also present at the meeting.
This was Amarinder's first meeting with Gandhi after Navjot Singh Sidhu was made the Punjab Congress chief. It took place day after Sidhu, in a series of tweets, accused the Congress of “inaction” in a 2018 drug trafficking case.
