Puducherry: This is what Kiran Bedi has to say about digital transaction
Puducherry: Lt Governor Kiran Bedi said digital banking and cashless transaction will benefit the Union Territory and asked employees, workers and functionaries of various outfits to become part of the change and move forward faster and spread out to their respective rural areas to educate the villagers.
Addressing officers and employees of various departments here on Tuesday, she said that for around 65 years the country had seen scam after scam, coupled with a parallel economy. But now a change was emerging which would be marked by transparent financial management, she said.
"We should all be part of the change and Puducherry will stand to benefit by the present digital banking system".
Bedi said municipal commissioners and officials of commune panchayats, NCC volunteers and others should visit rural areas every weekend to educate people on the necessity and importance of digital banking and train them on using mobiles and plastic cards for transactions.
As Puducherry has a total of 30,000 government staff there was good scope to achieve good results in initiatives in adopting digital banking system, she said, adding that the Chief Secretary had to frequently send reports to the union home secretary through video conferencing of the total digital transactions done here.
Bedi said the Puducherry government had decided to adopt e-wallet system in making payments to the contractors.
She said staff in her office Raj Nivas had already been trained on using e wallets for cashless transactions.
