Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Finds Teacher To Learn Malayalam: ‘I Can Speak A Little Bit Now’

Recalling a conversation from her election campaign, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared that veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister AK Antony had encouraged her to learn the language.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra revealed that she has started learning Malayalam while speaking at the inauguration of the Kattunayika Unnathi Cultural Centre in Wayanad’s Vadakkanad tribal settlement. The event took place on the second day of her three-day visit to the constituency, which she secured in a landslide victory during the December 2024 by-election.

Recalling a conversation from her election campaign, Vadra shared that veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister AK Antony had encouraged her to learn the language, as per India Today. Expressing enthusiasm, she said she had found a teacher and could now speak a little Malayalam.

The newly inaugurated 50-acre cultural center is dedicated to tribal welfare, and Vadra actively engaged with the young girls present, urging them to contribute their ideas for its development. She also took a moment to reflect on her grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and her profound admiration for tribal communities.

“She (Indira Gandhi) often spoke about the harmony in your way of life, the deep respect you have for nature, the forests, and water,” Vadra noted, as per PTI. She added that her grandmother cherished gifts from tribal communities, many of which remain on display in her museum today. Indira Gandhi, she said, always emphasised learning from tribal traditions and deeply respected their customs.

Discussing local concerns, Priyanka Vadra reaffirmed her commitment to improving infrastructure in Wayanad. She assured that she would continue pressing for central funds to address key issues such as drinking water and road development.

Held at the Vadakkanad tribal colony, the event reinforced Vadra’s engagement with her constituency, reflecting her ongoing efforts to address the region’s needs while strengthening cultural and historical ties.
