Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited AIIMS to inquire about Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's health who was admitted to the hospital after experiencing uneasiness and chest pain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi to enquire about the health of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who was admitted to the hospital after experiencing uneasiness and chest pain. The Prime Minister also prayed for his speedy recovery.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Went to AIIMS and enquired about the health of Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji. I pray for his good health and speedy recovery.”

Vice President Dhankhar, 73, was admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) under Dr Rajiv Narang, Head of the Department of Cardiology at AIIMS. According to reports, he was brought to the hospital around 2 a.m. and is currently stable and under observation. A team of doctors is monitoring his condition, and sources have confirmed that he is stable following the successful implantation of a stent.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also visited AIIMS earlier in the day to enquire about Dhankhar’s health, news agency IANS reported.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took to social media to express his concern and wished the Vice President a speedy recovery. “Received the news of Honourable Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji being unwell. I pray to God for his better health and speedy recovery,” he posted.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also extended his prayers, writing on X, “I received the news of Honorable Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankar ji being unwell. I pray to Baba Mahakal that he gets well soon and contributes to the progress of the nation with full energy.”

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's Mumbai Visit

Vice President Dhankhar was recently on an official visit to Mumbai, where he presided as the chief guest at the annual day function of the K.P.B. Hinduja College of Commerce. During his address, he called for a national debate on the transition from democracy to “emotion-driven policies, emotion-driven debates” that threaten good governance. He also criticised those who mock the Prime Minister, saying such criticism ignores the challenges he has overcome.

On March 5, while addressing a convocation ceremony at Jan Nayak Chaudhary Devi Lal Vidyapeeth (JCD) in Sirsa, Haryana, Dhankhar urged students not to fear failure, calling it a “myth and nothing else.” He emphasised, “We have to put the nation first always. There can be no interest higher than national interest. Personal and political interests are insignificant.”

Jagdeep Dhankhar assumed office as the 14th Vice President of India on August 11, 2022. Born on July 18, 1951, in Kalibanga, Rajasthan, he has had a long and distinguished political career. Before becoming Vice President, he served as the Governor of West Bengal and represented Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu constituency in the 9th Lok Sabha.
