PM Modi Undermining Basis Of Constituency-Based Parliamentary Democracy: Chidambaram

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments during a campaign rally that voters should focus on Kamal ka Phool rather than the candidates,

New Delhi: Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "undermining basis of constituency-based parliamentary democracy's and also claimed that a Presidential form of government that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh wants to lead will establish "majoritarianism,".

His criticism stemmed from Modi's comments during a campaign rally in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, when he urged voters to back the "lotus" (the BJP's election symbol), claiming that doing so would be their "blessings" to him and that they should focus on "kamal ka phool" rather than the candidates.

Chidambaram said: "Honorable PM said that the voters need not remember the name of the candidate in the constituency. Honorable PM also said 'vote for the lotus, it is a vote for Modi'."

Amit Shah In Himachal Pradesh

Amit Shah took a hit at Congress while addressing an election rally in Himachal's Nagrota. He said: "I was coming here, I saw a rally of one of the Congress candidates where 10 guarantees were written. Guarantees of only those people are believed who have some record. Who will believe in your guarantees? There was the Sonia-Manmohan government at the Centre, they did corruption of Rs 12 lakh crore. And today they are giving guarantees to the innocent people of Himachal."

The Home Minister while differentiating the BJP from the Congress, said: "It is difficult to count corruption in the Congress regime, and it is difficult to find corruption in the BJP regime."
