PM Modi To Visit Mumbai On January 19, Inaugurate Several Development Projects Ahead Of BMC Polls
PM Modi during his visit to the city will lay foundation stone of several development projects and also inaugurate the 35-km stretch of Mumbai Metro’s 2A and 7 lines.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the commercial capital Mumbai on January 19. It comes at a time when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election is going to be held in the city. The PM's visit is therefore being considered as crucial for the Shinde-Fadnavis led government in Maharashtra that looks to grab power of the civic body from the Shiv Sena.
It will also be the first visit of the Prime Minister to Mumbai after the change of power in the state.
PM Modi during his visit to the city will lay foundation stone of several development projects and also inaugurate the 35-km stretch of Mumbai Metro’s 2A and 7 lines. This indicates that the Shinde led government is preparing hard for the civic polls, which could be announced soon after the visit of the Prime Minister.
The PM will lay the foundation stone of 7 STPs (Sewage Treatment Plant) which will be made at the cost of Rs 28,000 crore. These plants will have the capacity to treat 2,464 million litres of sewage water daily.

PM Modi will also perform Bhumi Pujan for the construction of 400-km-long concrete roads in the city that will cost the state exchequer Rs 6000 crore.
Foundation stone will also be laid for the construction of three hospitals in Goregaon, Oshiwara and Bhandup by the Prime Minister.
In 2017, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena had won 84 seats while the BJP managed to grab 82 seats in the BMC polls out of the total 227 seats. Shiv Sena has been ruling the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for the last 25 years.
But after the historic split in Shiv Sena, the BJP looks like a strong contender to win the BMC elections after a gap of several years.
