PM Modi not doing enough to bring black money home: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress party on Friday said that the NDA regime at the Centre is not doing enough to bring back black money to India, and alleged that it was colluding and conniving with liquor baron Vijay Mallya. "Stark truth is that Vijay Mallya ran away with active connivance and protection of Modi government. Will Modiji answer, will Arun Jailtley answer that 9,091 crore rupees of money belonging to the common persons will be recovered from companies of Vijay Mallya. Who tipped off Vijay Mallya to run away?," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told ANI here. Liquor baron Vijay Mallya, is facing legal proceedings for alleged default of loans worth over nine thousand crore rupees from various banks. The ED has alleged that Mallya diverted Rs. 430 crores for purchase of a property abroad from the Rs.950 crores IDBI loan for his Kingfisher Airlines. The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday revoked Mallya's passport in order to bring him back into India. It had yesterday written to the High Commission of the United Kingdom in Delhi requesting Mallya's deportation so that his presence can be secured for investigations against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002. Surjewala questioned Mallya was coming back to the country. "When banks were moving the tribunal and then the Supreme Court for his arrest? Which was the union minister whom he met and consequently he ran away over nigh? How is he going to come back? What plans does Modi government have to take concrete action against Vijay Mallya and chote Modi 'Lalit Modi", he said. He highlighted that when farmers in the country were committing suicide both Mallya and Lalit Modi were enjoying comforts of United Kingdom with the public money. " Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya are both enjoying comforts of United Kingdom, England and other countries while common man continues to suffer. Farmers commit suicide even for not being able to pay 10, 000 rupees or 50, 000 rupees and they are forced to commit suicide but a person who is gone away with 9, 091 crore rupees, " Surjewala said, adding, "Chota Modi Lalit Modi, who is accused of money laundering they continue to enjoy. Is this the fair and lovely scheme of Modi government to back black money? Fifty0-year-old Lalit Modi, who was also the president of Rajasthan Cricket Association, has been facing money laundering charges over his involvement in IPL scam and is currently in self-imposed exile in the UK. The Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) V.K. Singh on Thursday informed the Parliament that the government has not yet initiated any proceedings for the extradition of Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi. He however, insisted that that the Minster of External Affairs would initiate the process as soon as they received the request.
