Cricket, Curry, Masterchef Bind Australia-India Relations, PM Modi Addresses Event Amid Thundering Applause
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that cricket, curry and Masterchef bind India-Australia relation while addressing the Indian diaspora at a community programme in Sydney.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on Tuesday arrived at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia amid a rousing welcome. PM Modi here addressed the members of the Indian diaspora. The people of the community have gathered in large numbers at Sydney Olympic Park to welcome PM Modi. Speaking on the occasion, the PM said that it is the mutual trust and respect that bind India and Autralia. Addressing the Indian diaspora here, PM Modi said that he has kept his promise that the Indians in Australia will not have to wait for another 28 years to see their PM.
"At the community event in Sydney, Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "When I came here in 2014, I made a promise to you that you will not have to wait for 28 years for an Indian Prime Minister. So, here I am in Sydney once again.," the Prime Minister said. PM Modi also mentioned Sameer Pandey being elected as the Lord Mayor of Parramatta.
The Prime Minister thanked his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese for the renaming of Harris Park as "Little India".
India-Australia Relations
Talking about the relationship between India and Australia, PM Modi said, "Once upon a time, India-Aus relations were defined by 3C - Commonwealth, Criket and Curry." "After this, some said it is defined by 3D- Democracy, Diaspora or Dosti," the PM added. He went on to say that now some say the relation is being by 3E- Energy, Economy and Education.
He said that mutual trust and mutual respect have not developed between India and Australia only due to the diplomatic relations. "The real reason, the real power is - all of you Indians who live in Australia," he said.
The Prime Minister added, "Our lifestyles may be different but now Yoga also connects us. We have been connected due to cricket for long. But now tennis and films are also connecting us. We might prepare food in different manners but Masterchef is connecting us now."
"I've heard that Chatkazz 'Chaat' and 'Jalebi' from Jaipur Sweets at Harris Park are very delicious. I want you all to take my friend Australian PM Albanese to that place," PM Modi to the Indian diaspora in Sydney.
The Prime Minister also announced that a new Indian Consulate will soon be opened in the city of Brisbane, Australia.
India's Growth And Aspirations
Speaking on India's rising economy graph, the PM said that today IMF considers India a bright spot in the global economy. He said that World Bank believes that if anyone is challenging global headwinds, it is India. He added that in the next 25 years, India aims to become a developed nation.
"Banking system in several countries are in trouble today but on the other hand, the strength of India's banks is being appreciated everywhere," the Prime Minister added.
He said, "Amid the once-in-a-100-year crisis, India made record exports last year. Today, our Forex reserve is scaling new heights. Example of how India is working for global good lies in our digital stake. You are well aware of India's FinTech revolution."
Talking about the possibility of talent in the country, the Prime Minister said, "India has no dearth of capability or resources. Today, India is the biggest and youngest talent factory..."
India, Australia And Cricket
The Prime Minister emphasised how the India-Australia relationship is being boosted by cricket. He noted that the Australian women cricket team came to India to play the maiden women's IPL.
Remembering cricketing legend Shame Warn, he said, "Our friendship is very deep off the field as well. Last year when Shane Warne died, hundreds of Indians were also mourning. We felt like we have lost someone very close to us."
Concluding his speech, PM Modi urged the members of the Indian diaspora to bring at least one Australian friend or relative with them whenever they come to India so that they can also understand and enjoy Indian culture.
Ahead of PM Modi's speech, Australian Prime Minister Albanese said that the last time he saw someone on that stage was Bruce Springsteen, adding "he did not get the welcome that Prime Minister Modi has got".
He added, "Prime Minister Modi is the boss."

Cultural programs were held in Sydney for the community event after PM Mod held a series of talks with Australian CEOs, artiste and others.

Talking to media here, singer Anup Jalota said, "People love PM Modi. Even Pak loves him. People in Pak say they need a leader like him...People in Sydney have one thing in heart - they want him as permanent PM."
Artist Danielle Mate earlier shared her experience of meeting PM Narendra Modi in Sydney.
"We talked a lot about how India and Australia could work better, encouraging creative subjects, particularly in University. He definitely has a creative element to himself...I think there are a lot of cultural crossovers in art as well as just culturally. There are a lot of similarities between our two countries, which is beautiful," she said.
Talking on India's growth in the field of science, Nobel laureate Brian Paul Schmidt said,"...India's ability to do world-class Science has become just an order of magnitude higher because India is investing in its Science and scientists to give them equipment and the ability to ask questions on the edge. PM Modi is certainly one of the most visible leaders that India has had in my lifetime..."
