PM Modi Chairs Meeting With BJP Leadership To Discuss Govt Formation In UP, Goa & Uttarakhand

Union Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath are present in the meeting.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday evening chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the development in Bharatiya Janata Party's ongoing exercise for government formation in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Goa.

Union Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath are present in the meeting.

According to reports, the meeting is underway at the Prime Minister's residence and it is also being attended by BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh.

The meeting comes at a time when BJP is yet to announce the names of its Chief Ministers in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Uttarakhand even after 10 days of poll result that gave BJP a clear mandate.

The saffron party has held several rounds of consultations for government formation in the aforementioned states.

In the recent Assembly elections, the BJP won in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, while the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Punjab. Earlier in the day, the N Biren Singh was unanimously elected as the Chief Minister of Manipur for the second term.

In Uttar Pradesh, it is very certain that BJP will retain Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister for the second term. However, the party is still deliberating of other aspects such as Cabinet structure and retention of UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, who lost his assembly seat.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, the newly elected BJP MLAs will meet in Dehradun on Monday in order to select their leader who will be the next Chief Minister of the hill state where the party has bagged mandate to run the government for second successive term.

Despite BJP's win in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost his assembly seat.

Even in Goa, it is most likely that Pramod Sawant will retain his CM post, but like in UP, Goa's cabinet structure is yet to be decided by the party.

Earlier in the day, Sawant told news agency ANI that BJP observers will reach Goa on Monday for Legislature meeting and everything will be decided in the meeting. Sawant also said that he will gladly accept the responsibility given by the party.

It is expected that the BJP will complete government formation process in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Goa by the end of next week.
