New Delhi [India], Sep 02 (ANI): A day after clocking record-high prices, retail rates of fuel have once again witnessed a hike on Sunday, with petrol being sold at Rs 78.84 per litre and diesel at Rs 70.76 per litre in New Delhi.

In Mumbai, petrol price has breached the Rs 86 mark, and was seen being sold at Rs 86.25per litre (increased by Rs 0.16 per litre) while diesel was retailing at Rs 75.12 per litre (increase by Rs 0.36 per litre).

On Saturday, the price of petrol was increased to Rs 78.68 per litre in Delhi, against Rs. 78.52 on Friday, while diesel was being sold at Rs. 70.42 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol was being sold at Rs 86.09 per litre (increased by Rs 0.16 per litre), while diesel prices touched a new high of Rs. 74.76 per litre (increased by Rs 0.22 per litre).

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan had said that the rise in crude oil price in the international market and devaluation of the Indian rupee against the US Dollar were responsible for the increase in fuel prices in the country, a key concern for the Centre.

There has been a surge in fuel prices since August 16, after the rupee hit a record low of 71 against the US dollar. (ANI)
