With Omicron cases touching the 200 mark in India, Union Health Ministry on Tuesday wrote to all states and Union Territories, (UTs) cautioning that the new Covid-19 variant was at least three times more transmissible than Delta.
The Center laid down the guidelines for what it called "threshold limits". The threshold limit, as per the center is test positivity of 10 percent or more in the last one week or 40 percent occupancy on oxygen supported or ICU beds.
In other news, the Assembly Election rallies are making noise every day. Amit Shah's Uttar Pradesh tour will start from Prayagraj on 24th. The Home Minister's visit will continue till January 4. Shah will visit Ayodhya in the first week of January on his tour. He is set to cover 140 assembly constituencies in his visit.
Rahul Gandhi will be in Wayanad, Kerala today. The Congress leader is on a two-day visit to his constituency.
Kejriwal is also in Goa in view of the upcoming polls. Addressing a rally at Campal Ground in Goa, Kejriwal said, "Today, in-flight, I got a Goan to accompany me. He told me that in the BJP's cabinet there is a minister (referring to Goa urban development and social welfare minister Milind Naik) who was involved in a sex scandal and because of it had to resign from his position."
The Air Quality Index (AQI) also has been soaring in the past months. The air quality in Delhi on Wednesday was 'very poor'.

Pfizer Oral Covid Pill Gets US FDA's Authorisation For At-Home Use
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday authorised Pfizer's Covid pill for high-risk people aged 12 and over, making it the first at-home treatment for the Coronavirus that is expected to become an important tool in the fight against the fast spreading Omicron variant.
"Today's authorization introduces the first treatment for COVID-19 that is in the form of a pill that is taken orally - a major step forward in the fight against this global pandemic," AFP quoted FDA scientist Patrizia Cavazzoni as saying.
Delhi CM Calls Review Meeting Over Omicron Preparedness
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called a review meeting on preparedness and management of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron earlier in the day. The review meeting will focus on the availability of beds, oxygen, medicines along with isolation wards if needed, a Delhi government official said.
