Amid the controversy over objectionable content on 'India’s Got Latent', sparked by Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remark in one of the episodes, the issue was raised during a meeting of Parliament's Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology. Several members of the committee expressed concerns over the incident and stressed the need for stricter regulation of such content.
What happened in the Standing Committee's meeting?
Sources reveal that seven to eight members voiced their worries, highlighting the recurring nature of such incidents. They called for the introduction of clear guidelines and regulations to prevent such content from being aired in the future.
The committee is expected to send a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging the need for broad directives not only for India’s Got Latent but also for other shows that generate inappropriate content. The committee is expected to recommend measures to curb the airing of such material.
During the meeting, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was present, with the committee chairperson emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. The chairperson expressed hope that the ministry would take immediate action to create rules that regulate objectionable content in the future.
Sources also noted that, for now, the committee has decided not to call anyone associated with 'India’s Got Latent' for questioning, as an investigation is already underway, and the committee does not want to interfere with the ongoing probe.
How it all began?
Ranveer, also known as Beerbiceps, made an incestuous comment in one of the episodes of 'India's Got Latent', which featured Ashish, Samay, Apoorva Makhija, and others. ANI reported that the Assam Police has issued new summons to Ashish Chanchlani, Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, and others following a complaint accusing them of promoting obscenity. A senior official from the Assam Police confirmed that a team has been sent to Mumbai to continue the investigation.
Ranveer’s Statement
Following the social media backlash, Ranveer apologized for his comments, calling it a "lack of judgment" on his part. He said, "I don't want to be the kind of person who takes that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect. I need to use this platform better," in a video he posted.
