On the fifth day of its Madhya Pradesh leg, the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is being led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, arrived in Indore on Sunday.
According to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra is intended to bring people together in opposition to "divisive forces" rather than being a campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
Kharge further stated that the purpose of the yatra is to link the populace with an ideology.
Speaking with ANI, Kharge stated: “Bharat Jodo Yatra is underway. It isn’t only for elections and votes, we’re also doing it to connect people with an ideology and that some people are trying to jeopardise values enshrined in the constitution. Yatra is meant to unite people against divisive forces."
“Doctors, farmers, lawyers— all classes are joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra," he further said.
On Saturday, the nation observed its 73rd Constitution Day, and Kharge urged its citizens to preserve the constitution's spirit.
“We got values of liberty, equality, fraternity, and freedom of speech from the constitution. But some parties are trying to break and control them. If they get time to do it, then such values will cease to exist. We have to keep alive the spirit of the constitution,” he said.
Bharat Jodo Yatra
It is the fifth day of the yatra in Madhya Pradesh and the 81st day overall of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Notably, the yatra would travel through 7 districts in Madhya Pradesh over the course of 12 days.
Since starting in Kanyakumari, the Yatra has travelled across 34 districts in 7 States over a period of 78 days.
Parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra have already been visited by the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party's general secretary, and her husband, Robert Vadra, had earlier joined party MP Rahul Gandhi and other participants in the yatra.
The 3,570-kilometre Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started on September 7 in Kanyakumari, will travel a further 2,355 km. Next year, it will conclude in Kashmir. The Congress asserted earlier in a statement that it is the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in India's history. Numerous political parties and social groups around the nation are supporting the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and support is growing daily.
