Oppn Didn’t Let Rajya Sabha Function: Piyush Goyal As RS Adjourned For First Part Of Budget Session

Meanwhile, Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre did not allow discussion over the Adani issue and the Opposition wanted the House to run.

New Delhi:  The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday blamed the Opposition for not letting the Rajya Sabha function smoothly. Union Minister Piyush Goyal alleged that the Opposition comes to Parliament with the motive of not letting dialogues happen peacefully. “The opposition leaders didn’t let the Rajya Sabha function smoothly. It is indirectly a disrespect of the Chair. Many members were passing comments. The opposition comes to the parliament with the motive of not letting dialogues happen peacefully,” he said.

The BJP leader's statement came after the first part of Budget Session in Rajya Sabha was adjourned till March 13 following ruckus by Opposition parties who demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe into the Adani issue.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre did not allow discussion over the Adani issue and the Opposition wanted the House to run.

“We wanted the House to run and discuss the Adani issue but Centre didn’t want that. We did not get a single chance to put forward the issue. Why was no JPC probe ordered? The way the PM spoke in Parliament, that's not how a PM is supposed to speak,” said Gohil, reported news agency ANI.

The House which was briefly adjourned earlier in the day will now meet at 11 am on March 13 after recess.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, who spoke about deliberate obstruction of proceedings, adjourned the House for the day after repeated appeals to bring order unheeded and Opposition MPs raised slogans in support of their demand for a JPC and also revocation of the suspension of Congress MP Rajani Patil.

Soon after the listed papers were laid on the table of the House, Opposition MPs insisted that the Chair allow Leader of Opposition and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to speak.

When Dhankhar permitted Kharge to speak, several members from the treasury benches started raising slogans. However, Kharge's remarks were expunged by the chair.
