Nupur Sharma Remarks Row: Ajmer Dargah Cleric Arrested From Hyderabad Over Hate Speech
Gohar Chisti, a 'khadim' of Ajmer dargah, had made the hate speech on June 17 before a rally of the Muslim community against BJP's now-suspended leader Nupur Sharma.
An Ajmer dargah cleric was arrested from Hyderabad by Rajasthan Police for allegedly delivering a provocative speech at the main gate of the shrine last month, PTI reported. Gohar Chisti, a "khadim" of Ajmer dargah, had made the hate speech on June 17 before a rally of the Muslim community against the BJP's now-suspended leader Nupur Sharma over her remarks on Prophet Mohammed.
In recent weeks, there have been several provocative statements by dargah clerics over the controversial statement by Nupur Sharma.
Ajmer Additional Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan said an FIR was registered against Gohar Chishti on June 25. Chishti left Rajasthan on June 29 and has been on the run since then.

"He will be brought to Ajmer on transit remand on Friday," PTI quoted Sangwan as saying.
After the murder of Kanhaiya Lal on June 28, where two men had slit the throat of the Udaipur tailor inside his shop for supporting Nupur Sharma on social media, police had arrested four people who were present with Gohar for allegedly raising controversial slogans.
Videos and audios of the hate speech were circulated on social media.
In the FIR registered by Dargah police station, it was mentioned that Gohar provoked people, calling for beheading of those who insult the Prophet.
The case was registered under IPC Sections 117 (abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than 10 persons), 143 and 149 (unlawful assembly), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Last month, another cleric of the Ajmer dargah, who on camera allegedly offered his house to anyone who beheaded Nupur Sharma, was arrested. In the video, 'khadim' Salman Chisti was also allegedly heard saying he would shoot her dead for insulting the Prophet.
The Ajmer Dargah Committee has issued a notice banning any kind of statement, slogan, photo and video display from Dargah Sharif. The committee said legal action would be taken for making controversial remarks from Dargah, IANS reported.
