Nuh Violence: Curfew To Be Lifted For 4 Hrs Tomorrow, CPI Delegation Turned Back — Top Points

Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said that confidence-building measures were underway and a meeting was held with both the communities.

The curfew in violence-hit Nuh district of Haryana will be temporarily lifted on Monday amid simmering tensions after clashes broke out between two communities during a procession by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad last week. As per an order issued by the Nuh District Magistrate, the curfew will be relaxed for four hours, from 9 am to 1 pm tomorrow, August 7. On Sunday as well, the curfew was lifted from 9 am to 12 noon as the residents stepped out of their homes to buy essentials.

Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said that confidence-building measures were underway and a meeting was held with both the communities.

  • Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala at an event in Hisar stressed that people have to stand together and give an answer to those who try to disrupt peace and brotherhood. "Today, we have to stand and give an answer to those who are jeopardising peace and brotherhood among us," he said on Sunday.
  • ATMs have been opened at the M.C area of Nuh, Tauru, Punhana, Ferozepur Jhirka & Pingwon and Nagina Block and banks will remain opened during the curfew period from 10 am to 3 pm. Cash transactions will be available from 11 am to 2 pm only on Monday, August 7, said the Nuh District Magistrate.
  • A four-member delegation of the Communist Party of India (CPI) was stopped by the police from entering violence-affected villages near Nuh on Sunday citing prohibitory orders.
  • "We have decided to go back because we don't want any confrontation. Hooligans, goons and miscreants can go freely, but democratic people who have come here for peacemaking are stopped,” CPI Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam said.
  • Nuh Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed on Sunday condemned the anti-encroachment action as “illegal”. The action comes after Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anil Vij vowed stringent action against the perpetrators of the violence.
  • “This drive is illegal as nothing will be achieved by this action. Those found guilty should be severely punished, but demolishing houses, shops of the poor is not right,” ANI quoted Aftab Ahmed as saying.
  • Mobile internet, bulk SMS and all dongle services remained suspended on Sunday and the suspension was extended till Tuesday, August 8.
