NSUI claims responsibility for burning effigy of Modi inside JNU, projects him as Ravan in this viral video
New Delhi: A video is getting viral on social media in which the NSUI, student wing of the Congress Party, has burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, projecting him as Ravan, inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.
The incident took place on the occasion Dussehra. Anil Meena who claimed to has uploaded the video said, "The video is from inside JNU and we all were present at the time of the incident."
"In democracy everyone has the right to protest", he said and added the during the time of Congress, BJP also used to burnt many effigies.
Objectionable slogans:
On the occasion, the students also shouted objectionable slogans.
- "Modi k upar se shuru karo", (Start from Modi) one of the students can be heard saying in the video, when they were about to set the effigy on fire.
- "Pehlai chelo ko jalao, chelo ko" (First burn the followers/pupils), another student says in the footage.
Recent protest in the JNU:
It may be recalled that JNU, recently, has been the hotbed of student activity.
The students of JNU held a demonstration, on 9 February 2016, inside their campus against the capital punishment given to Afzal Guru and Kashmiri separatist Maqbool Bhat. Guru was the convict in 2001 Indian Parliament attack.
The organizers of the event were ex-members of the Democratic Students Union (DSU) and it was held despite the University administration withdrawing permission for the event. The permission was withdrawn due to protests by members of the student union ABVP. The event saw clashes between different student groups. Anti-India slogans were also shouted during the protest.
