NRC row: 'This isn't final list, only draft; procedure is fair & transparent' says Rajnath

“No discrimination against anyone or harassment will take place”

New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday addressed the Rajya Sabha on the ongoing debate over the National Register for Citizens list in Assam; and called the entire procedure “fair and transparent”. Easing down the panic created over the current list, Home Minister assured that “This isn’t a final list, but only a draft”. Rajnath also asserted that “no discrimination against anyone or harassment will take place”. Hitting back at opposition over their criticism of the NRC draft, HM said, “Whole procedure of NRC was undertaken under supervision of Supreme Court. I would like to repeat that it’s a draft and not final, everyone will get chance to appeal. It’s a totally fair process. Unwarranted accusations are unfortunate”. “I am saying this again, that no coercive action will be taken against anyone in any situation. Attempts to create an atmosphere of fear are condemnable” HM added.
