Northeast Delhi Violence: Fresh Stone Pelting In Maujpur & Brahmpuri; Arson In Karawal Nagar

Northeast Delhi Violence: Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel also held flag march in Brahmapuri area, after stone-pelting incident between two groups in the area, today morning.

New Delhi: Violence continued for the second consecutive day over Citizenship Amendment Act in the northeast region of New Delhi, as the death toll in Monday clashes rose to 7. Incidents of stone-pelting erupted between two groups in Maujpur and Brahmpuri area on Tuesday morning, Delhi Police said. An incident of massive fire was also reported at a tyre market in Karawal Nagar. Arson in the tyre market was reported at 8.24 am, but the Delhi Fire Service has not been able to reach the spot as they were unable to secure police protection. Vehicles were also set on fire in Karawal Nagar on Sunday. Heavy security has been deployed in Maujpur area, after stone-pelting was reported in the morning. Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel also held flag march in Brahmpuri area, after stone-pelting incident between two groups in the area, today morning. Monday night witnessed sporadic incidents of arson as shops were gutted in fire by protesting groups at more than 35 places. "The situation is very tense. We are continuously receiving calls related to incidents of violence from North-East Delhi," Delhi Police said. Fire Director, Northeast Delhi said: “We received total 45 fire calls since yesterday till 3 am today; 3 firemen got injured, 1 fire tender was set ablaze.” Also Read | Northeast Delhi Violence: National Capital Remains On Edge During Trump's Visit; 10 Points Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday appealed for calm after violence erupted in the North-East district of the national capital and claimed the lives of seven persons, including a police head constable, as groups of anti and pro CAA protestors clashed in the area. "I appeal to all Delhiites to maintain peace. We are worried about the violence in North-EastDelhi. Several policemen and civilians were injured and some lost their lives. Several houses were set on fire and shops were damaged. It is very unfortunate," he said while addressing a press conference He also stressed upon sealing the Delhi borders stating, "MLAs of the border areas have said that people are coming from outside. There is a need to seal the borders and do preventive arrests." Briefing media about what transpired in between him and the MLAs of the affected area, the Delhi Chief Minister said he has given appropriate instructions to the Delhi Police, hospitals and Delhi Fire Service to bring back normalcy in the region. "I have told hospitals to treat the injured immediately. Delhi Fire Service will coordinate with the Delhi Police in those areas where they are finding it difficult to enter," he added. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the prevailing situation in the national capital at 12 noon today.
