Winter Is Not Over. IMD Forecasts Fog, Rain In Delhi, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, And Northeast

Cold weather has returned to North India. A western disturbance is expected to bring rain and cold waves to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and other states.

Weather Forecast: The weather in North India has flipped yet again. After a few days of warmth in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Haryana and Rajasthan, the cold has returned. According to the India Meteorological Department [IMD], a Western Disturbance is again active in the region, leading to the possibility of rain in many states. Rain amidst dense fog and a cold wave may further increase the winter chill.

A bulletin from the IMD read: "The Western disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation over East Afghanistan in lower tropospheric levels [troposphere is the lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere and extends about 10 kilometres above sea level]. Two fresh Western Disturbances are likely to affect Northwest India between February 1 and 3. Under the influence of these systems."

While Delhi got some relief this week with pleasant sunshine during the day, the evenings are growing cold due to the Western Disturbance. The minimum temperature has dropped, showing the impact of the chill.

Meanwhile, the temperature in Gulmarg in Jammu & Kashmir has reached -2 degrees Celsius. The situation has become even more difficult due to the strong winds. The snowfall has, however, brought in a sea of tourists, but the locals are facing a lot of problems due to the cold.

Dense Fog And Cold Wave In UP-Bihar Region

Dense fog has reduced visibility in many districts of UP and Bihar. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for fog in many districts including East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Purnea, and Kishanganj. Meanwhile, the cold wave is still prevalent in cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut and Gorakhpur in UP. Experts say that the temperature may continue to drop for the next few days.

Will Rajasthan Get Rain?

The effect of cold is seen in Rajasthan as well. According to the IMD, there is a possibility of rain here in the first week of February. A rain alert has been issued in eastern Rajasthan due to the Western Disturbance. Although the sunshine during the day provides some relief, the night temperature falls rapidly. The rain may lead to a further drop in temperature.

Jharkhand Gets Relief From Cold

The minimum temperature has increased in Jharkhand in the last few days, which has provided some relief from the cold. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Bokaro is between 10 and 14 degrees Celsius. However, due to the effect of the Western Disturbance, clouds may remain in the state after January 31 and there may also be rain.

Cold Wave To Continues In North India

According to the IMD, the cold wave will continue in North India for the next few days. Due to the Western Disturbance, light to moderate rain may occur in some regions, which may further reduce the temperature. People have been advised to be cautious due to the dense fog and cold winds.

Rain In Northeast

The IMD said that a cyclonic circulation currently lies over northeast Assam in the lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh, northeast Assam, and Nagaland on January 30 and 31.
