Farmer Leader Rakesh Tikait Narrowly Escapes After Car Collides With Nilgai In Muzaffarnagar

Rakesh Tikait, a prominent farmer leader, narrowly escaped an accident in Uttar Pradesh when a nilgai collided with his vehicle.

Farmer leader and national spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait, had a narrow escape in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district when a nilgai collided with the front portion of his vehicle, officials said on Saturday, PTI reported.

Tikait said the accident took place when his vehicle was near the Meerpur bypass road. A nilgai suddenly appeared on the road and collided with his car, even as the BKU leader escaped unhurt.

After getting the information, UP minister Kapil Dev Agarwal and Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha MP Harendra Singh Malik visited the farmer leader's residence to check on him.

Who is Rakesh Tikait?

Rakesh Tikait successfully led the farmer protests in 2020-2021 to cause repeal of three farmer laws implemented by the Modi government. He was born in Sisauli town of Muzaffarnagar, UP and, is the son of a prominent farmer leader and BKU co-founder late Mahendra Singh Tikait.

He joined Delhi Police in 1992 and a few years after that he left. He then joined the BKU. After his father's death, Tikait officially joined BKU and later became its spokesperson.

In 2018, Tikait was the leader of Kisan Kranti Yatra from Haridwar, Uttrakhand to Delhi. He had contested the UP Assembly elections in 2007 from the Khatauli seat as a candidate of the Bahujan Kisan Dal (BKD) party. In the 2014 Indian general election, he contested on a Rashtriya Lok Dal ticket from Amroha Lok Sabha constituency.

Tikait has been actively involved in farmers' issues for years, advocating for minimum support prices (MSP), loan waivers, and other agrarian concerns. His influence remains strong, especially among Jat farmers in North India.
