Iron Washer Gets Stuck In Kerala Man's Genitals For 3 Days, Fire & Rescue Personnel Step In After Doctors Fail

Doctors, unable to remove an iron washer lodged around the genital area of a 46-year-old man, were forced to call in the Fire and Rescue team from the Kanhangad Fire Station for urgent assistance.

If anyone believes that Fire and Rescue personnel are solely responsible for daring life-saving missions, they would be mistaken. These teams also provide crucial assistance in medical emergencies where doctors face challenges beyond their expertise.

A striking example of this unfolded on the night of March 25 at a district hospital in Kanhangad, a town in northern Kerala. Doctors, unable to remove an iron washer lodged around the genital area of a 46-year-old man. As the patient's condition deteriorated, they urgently called in the Kanhangad Fire and Rescue team for assistance, reported On Manorama.

'Treatment'

The patient had arrived at the hospital in excruciating pain, suffering from severe swelling that had completely obstructed urination. Reports indicated that the washer had remained stuck for three days before he sought medical help, by which time his condition had worsened significantly.

Faced with a complex and delicate situation, doctors attempted to remove the object but were unsuccessful. As the urgency of the case escalated, they reached out to Fire and Rescue personnel at around 10 PM, seeking their specialized intervention.

"It was a challenging, two-hour-long operation. We used a ring cutter, a tool commonly employed to remove rings stuck on fingers, to carefully cut the washer," P V Pavithran, the Fire and Rescue Station Officer of Kanhangad station, told PTI.

Describing the scene, Pavithran stated, "It was a very alarming sight. The iron washer was tightly placed around the private area, making it impossible for him to urinate."

A five-member rescue team meticulously carried out the procedure while doctors ensured the patient was sedated to minimise pain and complications.

When questioned about how the washer had become trapped, the man reportedly told officials that someone had placed it on him while he was intoxicated. However, the exact circumstances remain unclear.
